Incidents such as an accident or fire results in traumatic experiences . This results in the human body going into a state of heightened arousal. This is like an ‘emergency mode’ that involves a series of internal alarms being turned on. Being in emergency mode uses up vital energy supplies and this is why people often feel tired afterwards.
What happens to people after a Traumatic Experience?
People tend to respond to incident trauma in shock or in denial.
Shock is a sudden and often intense disturbance of your emotional state that may leave you feeling stunned or dazed and sometimes dissociated from yourself and your surroundings.
Denial involves you not acknowledging that something very stressful has happened, or not fully experiencing the intensity of the event. You may temporarily feel numb or disconnected from life.
